Chick Corea Concert
I don’t really like jazz music. Jazz is ok but it really does not do much for me. So what was I doing at a jazz concert? Loving it. First let me tell you why I went at all. 1) To broaden my horizons. It is all part of getting out and doing things. 2) Everything is better in person. Music, sports, speakers and nature are all far superior in person to recordings or broadcast. When you are there it is more than just what you came to see it is a whole experience.
The concert took place last night in Roanoke at the Jefferson Center and Chick Corea is apparently one of the best jazz performers alive today. (At least that was the opinion of the jazz buffs I went with. I suspect they are correct.) The music was excellent and the band seemed to be genuinely having fun while they played. Each musician was very personable which came across to the audience during various points in the concert. There was also a dancer that performed during about a third of the concert. She was excellent and while the musicians were fun to watch it was nice to also have something else to focus on while listening to the music. All in all it was a great show.
Am I going out to buy any jazz CDs? No, but I will definitely go to a jazz concert again and I'll probably listen to it on the radio once in a while.
