Ahhh, the ironies of life

Here I am biking 24miles, running marathons and swimming 40 laps in a pool* but I can’t seem to lose a pound in weight. Yeah, I know, I don’t need to hear all the possible reasons. I just think it is funny that a person can be so active and yet not lose weight. Of course it has to stop at some point or we would slowly disappear. Fortunately I am not that overweight, I just want to lose a few more pounds. Maybe starting weight training will help. :) I do have a few ideas on things I can do, but I still think it is ironic in general.

And once again, I run marathons, heck I ran 13 miles Sunday on a whim.** I go out to play frisbee and I am sucking wind after one good sprint. Sure it is different but you’d think I could at least make it a couple times up and down the field. I guess summer league is not going to be quite as easy as I had hoped. Again I do understand but it seems a little strange. Oh well.

On the good side I think I have finally come up with my training plan for the NRV Challenge. But after the frisbee game I think I’ll change it to include sprinting. I think I suckered, I mean talked, someone else at work into doing the challenge. We’ll see.

* not all on the same day

** small note to this, the run seemed fairly easy*** but the next day my legs were not all that happy

*** by easy I mean in the sense that I did not feel at all close to dying when I finished

I'm impressed with the activity level.

I have an idea, but not a suggestion for losing those extra pounds - cut down on the Guiness...

Joel...I love your picture...it made me laugh out loud! Thanks!

As to the weight loss thing...Weight loss occurs when your metabolism is burning more calories than you are consuming in a day. Unfortunately that can mean 2 things: 1) You are intaking TOO many calories. 2) Your metabolism has leveled off and adjusted to the amount of activity you do, thus it's not really as fast as you think it might should be.
That or you are just adding a lot of muscle to replace the fat.
Ok, I couldn't not comment on it, it's my job.
I'm impressed by the activity factor though! How do you have that much time!?!

I think I'll take a walk ;)

Weight training is a good way to up the metabolism I hear. That's my hope anyway. Interested in a plan, ask me :)

And why do you need to increase your metabolism Jex?

Joel I'm with you on the frisbee being so darn hard!! Thought it didn't motivate me to add sprinting to my workout plan!! :)

How to have so much time... make sure you talk your friends into it with you, so it's friend time and workout time all in one :) Getting up at 5am helps too!

I do have a bit of a confession to make. It is not like I am running/biking/swimming these distances daily. That starts next week when I get serious about the NRV Challenge. In fact right now my training is probably not very smart because I tend to just go the long distances with little to no prep. That is one reason I am not losing weight and it is also a reason it is not taking too much of my time. It does help to have a friend to train with. As Jilian said, it knocks out being social and getting exercise at the same time. This coming weekend I’ll post my training plan and then we’ll see how it goes. I’ll keep you posted.
