Ummmm, what?!?
I hope that you all had a successful Christmas. Now we move on to celebrate Kwanza, Hanukka and New Years.
I was playing Trivial Pursuit with my parents when this question comes up. “What New England state made whistling under water illegal, after much debate?” After having it read to me two more times because I could not believe my ears several questions came to mind. Why would anyone think to write this law? Who whistles under water? Why is it a problem if they do? Why would you spend any time debating this law? Once passed what plan do they have to enforce this law? How would you know if someone were doing it or even tell the difference between whistling and simply blowing bubbles?
I tried to look this up to see if I could find some sort of history on it. Unfortunately, or maybe fortunately, all I found was this site. Dumb Laws
By the way, the answer is Vermont where at one time it was also illegal to tie a giraffe to a telephone poll. Apparently they were smart enough to repeal that one. Thank god for common sense.
