Ok, I admit it.

It is time for me come out and type it for all the world to read. Yup, it is true. I listen to country music and I like it. There I said it. I still don’t know if you can call me a fan given that I listen to other genres of music more than I listen to country and I don’t own a single country CD or song. But I do listen and I do enjoy it when it happens.

Mostly I like a lot of the lyrics. They seem to have gotten away from the trailer park, house burned down, dog died, wife left me, etc… songs of the past. Most of the ones out now are funny to me. One of my favorites right now is called "She Let Herself Go" by George Strait. (lyrics) It is a humorous upbeat song and a pretty good sample of a lot of the current songs.

Plus Country has given me my current theme song, "My Next Thirty Years" by Tim McGraw. (lyrics) It doesn’t fit me exactly I feel like it describes my mental attitude about my future to a tee. It is an upbeat song about how the next thirty years are going to be great and I personally believe that they are.

So this spring when we all go to Nashville (you are going, right?) while you all are at the bar I’ll probably at the concert with Jilian. Maybe this year Cotton Eyed Joe’s will play country music. Well I won’t hold my breath on that one.

Living in SW VA and going to the Cellar and Old Time makes this whole country thing a fuzzy line for me. I love me some Gillian Welch, but I can't say I like George Strait. But then again, I like Paul Clark & the Lonesome Drifters...

If it's taught me anything, it's that I like GOOD music... doesn't matter the type. In fact, do you ever notice that some of the best work is done by people who cross genres of music? Witness Aerosmith/Run DMC, Jay-Z & Linkin Park, etc. My favorite song of all time that Paul Clark/F150's ever did was the country version of "Jump Around" by House of Pain.

I like old country music, not so much of the new pop country. There are different little subsets within country.

Well, I hope this doesn't mean that I will have to be at the Electric Lemonade (no idea of its real name) bar all alone and giving strangers Conway Twitty titty twisters!!
