Heaven on earth
Ok, so maybe I am exaggerating a little. There are some things you buy that are worth the money and some that are not. In this case I am not talking about the physical quality of the item as much as the value and effect it has in your life. I am not talking about the necessities like food, clothing and Guinness. No, I am talking about those items that you think you really want. Some you buy and never use or enjoy. Those items you can do without and turn out to be a waste of the money. Others you buy and use daily; or if not daily when you do use them they bring you such joy or comfort that you feel somehow fulfilled.
One of those items for me is my motorcycle. I don’t actually ride it that often but each time I do I fall in love with it all over again. Actually I think not riding often helps keep the romance going because it does not become routine. It also helps that most times when I do ride I am not really going anywhere but instead riding for the pure fun of wandering out into the world. My favorite is to think of a road I have never taken before then ride down it to see where it leads. And for me the rides are not just fun they are relaxing and meditative. There is no radio and nothing between me and the world at large. So I always return refreshed and at peace. I paid $500 for the bike and have added another $1200 in repairs and maintenance. But I would say that the sheer joy it has brought me is worth far more than that.
Today I took a ride and it was heaven on earth. That is well worth the price.
