My Idol
Lately I borrowed the movie The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy from a friend. (thanks MP) I, of course, enjoyed it. So I have decided to re-read what are probably the best books ever written, yup the four books of the trilogy. I went to the bookstore and bought a version that has all four books. It also includes an introduction by the author about the several versions of the story produced over the years. In the introduction he explains how he came up with the idea and I think this is truly genius at work.
“The idea for the title first cropped up while I was lying drunk in a field in Innsbruck, Austria, in 1971. Not particularly drunk, just the sort of drunk you get when you have a couple of stiff Gossers after not having eaten for two days straight, on account of being a penniless hitchhiker. We are talking of a mild inability to stand up.”
Douglas Adams is one of my favorite authors. He also wrote two detective novels which are as good as the guide books. If you enjoyed the Hitchhiker books and/or have a quirky sense of humor you will enjoy his books as well.
