Ooops I did it again
Yesterday I went to the Richmond fully prepared to switch from the Sun Trust Marathon to their 8k (4.96mi) run. But due to cost and hassle I hatched a different plan whereby I run 16-17 miles and then just quit. At that point in the course one is only a couple blocks from the finish. Of course at that point what’s another 9-10 miles. I finished in 4:35:01 which is ok but that doesn’t really tell the story. I finished the first 13.1mi in 2:04:09 before I started to run out of steam around mile 15. I’d say that between that point and the finish line I probably walked about 2.5 miles. So I am pretty happy with my overall time. If I get that walking out of the way I can probably beat 2:10 next time. We'l see.
A funny thing did happen to me during the race. As I was running through a part of the course where the path became narrow I bumped elbows with the guy next to me. Before I got the chance he apologized and I said that it was no problem. But I recognized his voice so I looked over at him and sure enough it was one of my fraternity brothers that I had not seen in years. He of course did not immediately recognize me due to the new hair style. (Or lack there of.) We ran for a couple miles chatting about life and catching up before I left him going up a hill. Of course he passed me later when I was walking. It was good to see him.
