Basketball

Because of our trip to Arizona Jilian and I missed the practice and game last weekend. One of our player’s parents stepped up and with the help of his older sister won without us. YEAH!!!! Stars to everyone. A 2-0 record!!!!

For practice on Thursday I am pretty sure the parents got together and decided to play a joke on Jilian and me by giving each of their children a pound of sugar and five cups of coffee before bringing them to practice. They were almost completely unmanageable with so much energy and no desire to pay attention. But just as you started to get really frustrated one of them would look up with their small angelic adorable faces and all was forgiven. I think god made children so darn cute as a defense mechanism against frustrated adults. It was the worst practice we have had so far but I think a lot of it was swelled heads from being undefeated. No stars. :(

Today we had our third game and we got killed 35-11. I hate to say it but I am sort of happy about it because I think they will now understand why they need to learn during practice. They are teachable when then pay attention. Practice was not the only reason we lost though. The kids played great but their shots just weren’t falling in the basket. And the other team had some noticeably taller players. So they were able to easily get rebounds. It was a good games and I am very proud of our kids. Stars all around because I think they tried hard and did pretty well over all.

Yesterday I watched Barry’s kindergartner play. It was so much fun to watch. They are so small and did far better than I thought they would. And at that age it is a very loose game in terms of rules. For example, one boy would dribble while he was standing still, grab and hold the ball when he ran to a different spot and then start dibbling again. It was so funny.

We've faced the highs and lows of basketball last week. Earlier in the week the girls were involved in one of the roughest most poorly officiated games I've ever seen. Us parents decided afterwards that if it ever got that bad again we would pull the kids for their own safety - it was that bad. Then on Saturday they faced their first coed team (ours is all girls) and were down 8-2 at the half. They managed to tie the game by the end of the 4th quarter. There was no scoring during the overtime period so the final score was 10-10!
