Ian gets a convertible

Ian has this police car that he loves to zip around in. It is one of his favorite toys. How do I know it is one of his favorite toys? Because he plays with it several times a day unlike many of the other toys which get taken to the middle of the room, played with for five minutes and left to gotten out the next day, or later, for five minutes.

Anyway, Ian loves to climb on the car and does really well at it. We obviously keep and eye on him and shoo him off when he gets close to climbing on top. Well the other day he seemed to be in a particularly energetic mood. And by particularly energetic I mean he moved around the room at the speed of a humming bird for about three hours. During this time he started not only climbing on top of the car but standing up and sticking his hands in the air like some Olympic gymnast who just stuck their landing. (Huge grin included.) So Lorree suggested taking the top off and I did. Now he has a convertible.

I thought that he would be very upset over the loss of the top and climbing toy. As it turns out he took it rather well. As I was removing some screws and the top he was laying on the ground looking up under the ‘hood’ with a toy screwdriver making his own repairs. The only problem is that the left side door which swings open is held on by the top and so will no longer stay on. I tried using duct tape to hold it on but apparently Ian would have none of this decorative improvement. Instead he kept climbing in and kicking the door off. For about an hour afterwards he kept pointing to the door itself, or the place where the door ought to be, and sorrowfully saying ‘door’ in a voice that was not so much upset as morning the passing of something. Even now he periodically gives the quiet ‘door’.

Well I guess he likes the convertible, here he at the drive-in.
