A good day

Today I decided to stay home and study for a Cold Fusion certification. I was doing well so in the afternoon I decided it was time to get outside. For some time now I have been itching to ride the bicycle and I also had errands to run so I saddled up and headed to Office Max.

The Huckleberry Trail was completely passable except for the ten feet of slush where I had to go very slow. Other than that is was just fine if you don’t count the twenty feet I had to walk because of snow. I felt better about this when I saw someone on a mountain bike walking over it also. But besides those two spots and the quarter mile this side of Merrimac the trail was completely and utterly clear.

When I got to Office Max I locked the bike to a bench and considered putting the lock key in my pocket but instead decided to hold it in my hand. I entered the store, dropped the key and kicked it under the nearest isle. Fortunately I have a good sense of humor and found this particularly funny. Also fortunately like all metal shelves all I had to do was unload everything off the lowest shelf and lift up the shelf to get my key.

Next up was Books-A-Million and Barnes & Noble. Neither had the Java book I was looking for so it was time to head back. I made it from the Barnes & Noble parking lot, down Franklin, left on Pepper’s Ferry and back to the trail all without having to stop at a single light. I was pretty grateful for that.

I stopped at Hokie Spokes to grease up the chain, the Optomatrist for more contacts and new glasses and then to Volume Two which also did not have my Java book. I briefly considered going to the Red Cross to deposit a pint but then thought the ride home might be too exciting. So home it was via Glade to Price’s Fork.

This evening Monica, Jilian and I went to Roanoke to watch his daughters play basketball. Unfortunately they over booked the gym so their game was cancelled. We went bowling instead. I did very well but Monica with an upset stomach and a butt that kept twitching beat me by one pin. Oh well, a good time was had by all.

Good night.
